Lyrics
(Chorus)
Promise me nothing, I'll ask you no more;
Give what you have for today.
I'll promise you nothing, and give you much more,
And slip you a smile on the way.

Don't tell me you'll love me forever;
Don't tell me you'll love me at all.
Don't say, "forever together,"
Forever's a long way to fall.

Don't tell me your dreams of tomorrow;
Dreams are but clouds in the sky.
Dreams will bring nothing but sorrow,
When they rain and they pour from our eyes.

Repeat Chorus

Don't speak to me the words of poets;
They are but a soft summer breeze.
They sing to you sweet honey notes,
But move only dry rustling leaves.

instrumental break

Repeat Chorus

whistling verse

You ask how you can make me happy,
Well, you should have known all the while;
It's easy to make someone happy:
Be quiet and slip him a smile.

(Final Chorus)
Promise me nothing, I'll ask you no more;
I'll give what I have for awhile.
I'll promise you nothing, and give you much more,
And you can just slip me a smile.
